Eskom eases load shedding for the new week – here’s the new schedule

 ·5 Nov 2023

Power utility Eskom says that improved generating capacity is giving it room to suspend load shedding during the day this week.

Stage 2 load shedding will be implemented on Sunday from 16h00 to 05h00 on Monday as previously scheduled.

Thereafter, load shedding will be suspended until 16h00, Eskom said.

Stage 2 load shedding will kick in again for the evening peak, lasting until 05h00 the next day. This pattern will repeat until further notice, it said.

Sunday, 5 November

  • Stage 1: until 16h00
  • Stage 2: 16h00 to 00h00

Monday, 6 November

  • Stage 2: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Suspended: 05h00 to 16h00
  • Stage 2: 16h00 to 00h00

Tuesday, 7 November

  • Stage 2: 00h00 to 05h00
  • Suspended: 05h00 to 16h00
  • Stage 2: 16h00 to 00h00

According to independent energy analyst Pieter Jordaan, much of Eskom’s recent successes in keeping load shedding at bay have been thanks to lower demand as well as the utility ramping up the burning of diesel significantly.

After nine days of no load shedding, however, the group was forced to return to blackouts after the “trick” proved to be unsustainable.
