New Ford SUV coming to South Africa
As part of Ford’s R5.2 billion investment in its South Africa operations, it will launch the new Ford Territory SUV in the second quarter of 2024.
Ford Motor Company noted that the Territory hasn’t been sold locally since 2009 and promises to be one of its segment’s most spacious and advanced options.
The new SUV is expected to compete with others such as the Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Mazda CX-5, Nissan X-Trail, Toyota RAV4, and VW Tiguan to give you an idea of the price point the Territory will likely retail at.
As reported by TopAuto, The company revealed a few key details about the five-seater, such as its engine and headlining equipment, but has remained tight-lipped about other aspects, including the number of specifications South Africa will receive and pricing.
In addition to the Territory, Ford previously noted that other new models, such as the new Ranger Tremor and Platinum, Tourneo Custom and Transit Custom vans, and the all-new Mustang and Mustang Dark Horse, are slated to be introduced to South Africa.
Features
As outlined by TopAuto, the base model is expected to come with full LED lights, silver longitudinal roof bars, and 18-inch alloy wheels. In contrast, the range-topper is further treated with 19-inch alloys, electric side mirrors with courtesy lamps, and chrome appliqués on the door sides.
The Territory will come as standards with a 7-inch digital driver’s display, a urethane multifunction steering wheel, keyless entry and start, rear-seat air vents, and a 12-inch central infotainment unit supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Additionally, the standard kit includes six airbags, an electric handbrake with auto-hold function, and Ford’s “Co-Pilot 360” semi-autonomous driving assistance technologies, which take the form of blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, rear parking sensors, stability and traction control, hill-start assist, a tyre-pressure monitoring system, and ABS with electronic emergency brake assist.
The top-end model features electric front seats, a 12-inch instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charger, an electric tailgate, dual-zone climate control, ambient lighting, and interior wall lights in “wood colour”.
The flagship model also includes a 360-degree camera program, autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go, lane-change assistant, front parking sensors, automatic high beams, and forward-collision alert., said TopAuto.
Performance
The SUV measures 4,630mm long, 1,935mm in width, and stands 1,706mm tall. It has a ground clearance of 190mm, providing a boot capacity of 448 litres.
Ford South Africa has officially announced that the Territory SUV will be available in the local market with a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol engine that can deliver 140 kW of power and 320 Nm of torque paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission.
This engine is the same as the one used in the Latin American version of the car, which is known to offer a combined fuel consumption of 6.3l/100km.
However, it’s important to note that the fuel standards in South Africa differ from those in Argentina so fuel efficiency may vary. Additionally, both SUV variants come with four selectable drive modes, including Eco, Normal, Sport, and Mountain, noted TopAuto.
