New Suzuki Jimny 5-door officially available in South Africa – pricing

 ·14 Nov 2023

Suzuki has finally launched its Jimny five-door in South Africa, with prices ranging from R429,900 to R479,900 for the new model, reported TopAuto.

Suzuki introduced the fourth-generation model of their Jimny SUV in 2018, which quickly became a fan-favourite due to its off-road capabilities.

Now, the Japanese automaker has answered fans’ prayers by adding two more doors to the Jimny, making it even more versatile and practical for everyday use. The updated model has undergone several other improvements as well, further enhancing its off-road prowess.

Features

The five-door version of the car is longer than its three-door counterpart, measuring 3,965mm in total length, which gives it an extended wheelbase of 2,590mm compared to the three-door’s 2,250mm.

In addition to the larger size, the five-door model also boasts a bigger boot capacity of 211 litres, which is 126 litres more than the three-door version. The other dimensions, such as height, width, and ground clearance, remain the same at 1,670mm, 1,645mm, and 210mm respectively.

Apart from the increased size, the new Jimny model comes standard with a number of features that were previously optional. These include:

  • A chrome grille,
  • a 7.0-inch touchscreen (or 9.0-inch on the GLX) with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto,
  • A reverse camera, rear parking sensors, and a rear 12V socket.

Additionally, the five-door GLX units receive automatic LED headlights and rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, automatic climate control, six airbags, auto-folding side mirrors, and a leather steering wheel.

The Jimny five-door also comes with three new metallic colours that are exclusive to this model:

  • Sizzling Red,
  • Celestial Blue and
  • Granite Grey.

Other standard features that remain the same as the three-door model include 15-inch alloy wheels, electric door mirrors, a multifunction steering wheel, air conditioning, electric windows, ABS, hill assist, and electronic stability control.

Performance

All the models are powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that provides 75kW and 130Nm, which is transmitted to all four wheels through the brand’s AllGrip all-wheel-drive system featuring a low-range transfer case.

The GL model is only available in manual, while the others have two transmission options: a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic.

Both the manual and automatic versions of this car have a fuel consumption rate of 6.3 litres per 100 kilometres and 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres, respectively. Interestingly, these rates are quite similar to those of the three-door model.

Although the car now has extra doors, the increase in weight is barely noticeable, with the added mass only slightly exceeding 100 kilograms.

The 4×4 off-road angles have changed slightly, with an approach angle of 36 degrees instead of 37 degrees, a break-over angle of 24 degrees instead of 28 degrees, and a departure angle of 47 degrees instead of 49 degrees.
