New facelifted Opel Corsa coming to South Africa

 ·18 Oct 2023

Opel South Africa has confirmed that the new Opel Corsa will be launched in mid-2024.

The hatchback comes with updated exterior styling and improved standard equipment. While the rest of the world will soon see the first Opel with a 48-volt hybrid system, South Africa will not be getting the mild-hybrid drivetrain or the two fully-electric Corsa options.

However, Opel has hinted that low-emission vehicles may be considered for the South African market in the future. The updated Corsa retains the same engine as the current model, with a single 1.2-litre turbocharged engine with two output levels.

The new Corsa features Opel’s new “Vizor” design concept, which is also used in models such as the Grandland and Mokka. The front fascia has been redesigned with a gloss black panel that connects the two headlight clusters, and the headlights themselves feature a new light signature.

The front bumper and air intakes have also been updated, and at the rear, the model lettering has been placed on the tailgate.

The updated Corsa comes with a new Flank Guard system, which gives audio-visual warnings if the side of the car could touch an object. Other features include:

  • A high-resolution panorama rear-view camera, lane-keep assist, driver drowsiness alert, and forward-collision alert with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection.
  • Buyers can also opt for a new fully digital cockpit, which comes with a digital instrument cluster, a 10-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a wireless smartphone charger.

The Corsa retains the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine of the current model, which can produce 74kW and 205Nm in six-speed manual guise, with fuel consumption recorded at 5.7l/100km, 0-100km/h acceleration at 9.9 seconds, and top speed at 194km/h.

When matched with the six-speed auto-box, it generates a higher 96kW and 230Nm with fuel consumption of 6.3l/100km, 0-100km/h acceleration at 8.7 seconds, and top speed at 208km/h.

The new Corsa lineup and South African price range will be announced closer to its launch date.
